LUCKNOW: Days following shooting of a policeman in Lucknow, his wife and brother-in-law were arrested for murder, confirmed a police official on Monday. Satish Kumar, a 42-year-old officer from the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC), was shot at his residence in city on Diwali night and subsequently passed away.
Deputy commissioner of police Vineet Jaiswal disclosed that five investigative teams were assembled to solve the case.After collecting both manual and technical evidence, the authorities apprehended the two suspects on Sunday.
The police official identified Devendra Verma, the 35-year-old brother-in-law, as the primary perpetrator, while Bhavna Singh, Satish Kumar’s 40-year-old wife, was named as an accomplice.
“An illegal firearm used in the crime has been seized. Additionally, the attire worn by the accused on the night of the incident, along with the bicycle used during the crime, has been recovered,” stated Jaiswal.
Initial inquiries suggested that a domestic dispute was the motive behind the homicide, according to law enforcement.
A case has been filed at Krishnanagar police station against both individuals under IPC Sections 34 (acts committed with a common intention) and 302 (penalty for murder), in addition to relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Satish Kumar, a resident of Manasnagar and serving as a quartermaster in the fourth battalion of the PAC in Prayagraj, sustained fatal gunshot wounds late on Diwali night. Reports indicated three bullet injuries, one in his arm and two in his neck, resulting in critical condition.
Family members rushed him to Lokbandhu Hospital, where doctors declared him deceased.
